My Candy C pedals have both completely broken. I purchased them new less than 3 months ago. The left pedal's spindle is sliding all over the axle; I had to ziptie it in place. One of the wings on the right pedal has cracked, thus immobilizing the pedal and spindle.
It's rediculous!

Ouch. That sucks. I hate to say it, but I've heard waaaay too many stories of Crank Bros pedals either exploding or needing very, VERY regular bearing service.
I really like the way their stuff is designed, but they seem to have a real achilles heel with the bearing & spindle interface.
With my new Nomad I just pulled older SPDs off of another bike, partly because they were just sitting there and partly because I was leery of going with Crank Bros.
Several of my friends who ride a lot have given up on C.B. pedals and have gone with Time. Time uses a very similar retention mechanism but the pedals actually survive regular use. The bottom line is that pedals are not something I want to service. Ever. There are bigger mechanical issues to worry about.
Good luck! The C.B. customer service is supposed to be good...
